The Privilege to Build and the Responsibility to Care

A few months ago I realised it was time to build.. and by build I mean be part of a team looking to create real tangible value. So the search started.

Fast forward a couple of months I believe I’m part of a team creating exactly that.

Over the last three weeks I’ve re-learnt what it’s like to have real purpose in a ‘job’ & what it really means to contribute. I see my friends come into work everyday and want to do better not just for themselves (because we’re all competitive af) but because we believe in this mission.

Real purpose:

We are creating a system that will fundamentally change an industry - that change, that legacy, requires care. We need to be thoughtful and careful in our actions, as typically we’ll only get one shot, to execute as we mould this change.

That sounds rather abstract but what I mean is that everyone we talk to within our space will be affected by our system - their roles will change. If we want to direct this change we need them to be with us, everyone knows first impressions count so really we get one chance to align.

This to me is purpose - having the privilege to drive change.

What’s been most striking to me is the culture of this team. Saturn doesn’t operate in silos. There’s no ego. Everyone shows up, helps out, and pushes each other to be better - again not just for individual gain, but because we all believe in what we’re building together.

These are my early reflections - nothing concrete but with the view they’ll become concrete when executed.
