Control the Pace. Orbit with Intent. Win Without Exception.
Complacency Is Our Only Competitor
Complacency is typically associated with carelessness, which remains true. However, in our context the more apparent threat of complacency lies in thoughtlessness. Whilst we continue to move fast and break things (eloquently) I’ve found myself at times not applying enough thought in what I may have perceived as low challenge tasks which then evolve into problems. Moving too fast without thought is complacent. Regardless of excuses in time resources, conflicting priorities, or ever-increasing demands. Control is king and control is a choice. Lose control of your time, you lose control of your ability to execute. By just moving fast we become complacent. Move fast, stay thoughtful, and we deliver like killers.
Orbit at All Times
The dependence we have on one another is immense. To know that somebody is dependent on what you do, how you act, and what you deliver is a privilege. But, naturally also a pressure. Mistakes will happen, things have and will continue to go wrong, but our success will directly correlate with our ability to orbit as a team, cross-functionally and horizontally. Our ability to communicate, iterate, and support each other will define our potential to grow. When things have gone wrong and we’ve taken extreme individual ownership, orbited as a team, and responded with intent there isn’t a problem we can’t solve. All our interactions must be transparent, objective, radically candid, and delivered with care as we all strive towards this shared goal. If we feel like we’re out of sync, we are. Orbit.
Winners Win
Hunt, inspire, and kill. As I begin exploring enterprise level deals and as a team we begin closing them. We hunt to build meaningful relationships within firms. We inspire in our communication through partnership, transparency, and authenticity. And we kill in execution, delivery, and implementation. Every single member of the team contributes to these steps. My biggest challenge has been to learn the ins and outs of the profession as quickly as possible. But, my biggest lesson has come in learning who you’re talking to. Each client has varying ambitions and as a team our value comes in serving them to achieve their ambitions. On the front end I must remain curious, collaborative, and precise. This becomes easy when that’s how we strive to function internally. People depend on us, once again that’s pressure. But, that pressure is a privilege that allows us to be excited to hunt, inspire, and kill internally and externally every day. This shines through, winners win because it’s who they are and what they do, clients see that.
We’ll win as a team or learn as a team. This is defined by how we support one another. Somedays we’ll be high and some days we’ll be low. But by remaining thoughtful, continuing to orbit, and playing to win we will continue to deliver and our client relationships will continue to thrive.
